Australia Plans Execution Of More Than 10,000 Carmels Due to High Consumption of Water

A very thirsty camel may drink up to 32 gallons of water in approximately 13 minutes. Feral carmels in South Australia are set to be killed in a bid to stop them from drinking too much water as droughts and fire ravage the country. More than 10,000 of carmels will be shot by professional shooters in helicopters, starting Wednesday. The area’s local government, Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY), said in a memo posted on Facebook that “extremely large groups of camels and other feral animals in and around communities” are “putting pressure on the remote Aboriginal communities” as they search for water. “With the current ongoing dry conditions the large camel congregations threatening the APY communities and infrastructure, camel control is needed,” the note added.
